An Advocate is: - the equivalent of an English Barrister.
- a member of the Faculty of Advocates which distinguishes between junior counsel and senior counsel (also known as "Queen's Counsel").
- a specialist in presenting cases before courts and tribunals, with rights of audience before the High Court of Justiciary and in giving legal opinions.
- usually in receipt of instructions indirectly from clients through solicitors (although in many circumstances they can be instructed directly by members of certain professional associations.
