- In an effort to assess the full impact the event has had on the survivor (primary victim) of the trauma, mental health specialists commonly ask to see his/ her spouse or partner (secondary victim). (This does not mean that the survivor's word is being doubted.)
- Should the specialist not ask to see the spouse or partner then it is worthwhile suggesting that he/she should do so.
