about us

  • Hello, and thank you for visiting the Sudden Trauma Information Self Help (STISH) website.
  • The purpose of this website is to provide accurate information and advice on many issues which surface in the wake of a sudden traumatic experience (i.e., an unexpected and one off event such as a road traffic accident, industrial accident, or assault).
  • This website has not been designed to provide information on issues relating to longstanding traumatic experiences such as childhood sexual abuse.  However, if you have been affected by such experiences, you may find some of the organisations listed in the Quick Links section helpful.

  • The content of this website has been prepared for adult users (i.e., 18 years and over) by a small group of professionals comprising the STISH Management Committee.  We do provide information about the effects of trauma on children and young people, which parents/guardians and carers may find useful if young people in their care have been affected by a traumatic event.
  • We do endeavour to provide an extremely comprehensive and up-to-date list of UK-based organisations which provide advice and support across a wide range of situations in our 'Quick Links' section.  However, please do contact us if there is any information that you are looking for that you cannot find listed.
  • Should you have any queries about  the information provided on this website, please contact us.
  • Please read the 'Terms and Conditions' before accessing the sections contained within this  website. By accessing this website, you agree to be bound by the terms and conditions.
